Dust the case with a soft dry microfibre cloth. Polishes containing silicone contaminate the finish and complicate future refinishing.
Clean keytops with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately; moisture running down the key sides swells the wood.
Keep drinks, plants and candles off the piano. A single spill can reach the action and cost more than years of tuning.
Close the fallboard when the piano is idle, but leave the lid down rather than propped in dusty rooms.
